Abstract

Background: Evidence on syndactyly in middle-income countries remains limited, particularly regarding determinants of hospital resource utilization. Methods: A 10-year retrospective observational study was conducted including 112 pediatric patients with congenital syndactyly. Demographic, clinical, and healthcare variables were analyzed. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Results: Simple syndactyly predominated (60.4%), with higher foot involvement (67.0%) and unilateral presentation (81.3%). Complex syndactyly was significantly associated with additional malformations (p < 0.001). Length of stay was not associated with anatomical severity but was significantly associated with the type of healthcare system (p = 0.031). Conclusions: Hospital resource utilization appears to be influenced more by healthcare system factors than by clinical severity.
